Spice Fire One Mi-FX 1 With Firefox OS Launched For Rs. 2,299, Available From August 29

Spice Retail has launched the first Firefox OS smartphone – Spice Fire One Mi-FX 1 in India at an initial price tag of Rs. 2,299. It would go on sale exclusively on Snapdeal.com for a limited period starting 29th August. Later it would be available in major retail stores, Spice HotSpot stores and Saholic. According to the company, this is targetted towards the people who still use feature phone and are waiting to switch to smartphones at an ultra-affordable pricing.

Commenting on the launch, Prashant Bindal, Chief Executive Officer, Spice Mobility Ltd, said,

“This is a step towards enabling the dreams of the small town masses of connecting with their aspirations through affordable smartphones. With the ultra-low cost Spice Fire One, we at Spice, aim to convert the feature phone users into smartphone users, thereby, aiding them with the power of internet. This partnership with Mozilla showcases our commitment to providing the best technological innovations first hand to our customers. This joint undertaking with Mozilla is a breakthrough in product offering and a brand new concept for smartphones.”

On the specifications front, it has 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels and it is powered by a 1GHz processor. It runs on Firefox OS developed by Mozilla and based on HTML5. For your, information, the Firefox OS is based on HTML5, has Adaptive App Search or the Single Window Search.

On the imaging front, it has 2-megapixel rear-camera and 1.3MP front-facing camera.

It is a dual-SIM phone with dual standby support and has connectivity features like 2G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Other features include FM Radio, 3.5mm audio jack.

There is no word on RAM, internal storage and on battery capacity yet. The device comes pre-loaded with Facebook, Twitter, Connect A2, and App Marketplace. It also has Firefox marketplace to download more apps. it supports several Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil and Bengali.

The company has confirmed that the smartphone will come with a free silicon cover in the box.
