Indian handset brand Xolo has launched the company’s latest smartphone – Xolo 8X-100 with new HIVE UI at an initial price tag of Rs. 13,999. It comes in black color and would be available across India starting next week. At such a price range it will compete with Xiaomi Mi3. The Xolo 8X-1000 is the first smartphone that comes with the new HIVE UI and the new HIVE UI will be seen on upcoming phones too. Xolo said that, there are no plans to port the UI back to its existing smartphones.

On the specifications front, it has a 5-inch HD IPS display with resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels and it is protected by ASAHI Dragontrail glass in front & Corning Gorilla Glass 3 at the back. It is powered by a 1.4GHz True Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592M processor which is paired with Mali 450 GPU. It has 2GB RAM and 16GB in-built memory which can be expanded further up to 32GB via microSD card. It runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat based HIVE UI in top and there is no word on future support for updates.
The new HIVE built on the lines of Xiaomi’s MIUI and Oppo’s ColorOS respectively. The new HIVE UI brings new themes, new music player with last.fm, Fusion X artist recommendations based on what you’re listening to, new launcher, new contacts, new widgets, new look, Gallery and more. It has a unique feature called Connect – this feature essentially lets users to interact with company’s developers to offer feedback on how things work or request new features for their smartphone. Another feature called Edge – it is basically a platform for designers to create and share themes, wallpapers and ringtones for users. The quick settings completely redesigned and other additions include Chameleon widget for notifications on weather, calendar, missed calls, SMS, etc.

On the imaging front, it has 8-megapixel rear-camera with LED flash, Sony’s EXMOR R sensor, 1080p video recording and 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
In terms of connectivity, the phone supports Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and Wi-Fi Direct. It is a dual SIM smartphone and measures 140 x 70 x 7.9 mm.
The smartphone packs a 1920mAh battery, according to the company it delivers up to 11 hours of talk time and up to 352 hours of standby time on 2G networks.
