In an event in China, Xiaomi has announced the Mi Band 3 at a starting price tag of 169 Yuan (US $26). The Mi Band 3 comes in Black colour with bands in graphite black, hot orange, and deep blue colours. It will go on sale in China starting from June 5th, 2018. The company also launched the NFC version of the Mi Band to support contactless payments at a price tag of 199 Yuan and it will be available in September. Originally, the Mi Band 3 is the successor to the Mi Band 2 that was launched back in 2016.
The Mi Band 3 comes with an updated design, added features, and an improved OLED monochrome screen. The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 features 0.78-inch OLED display with a resolution of 128 x 80 pixel, which comes with rounded edges and button on the front, right below the display. The new display panel display more characters, incoming call, and text message alert as well as the current time, steps taken, sleep monitoring, and heart rate count. The band is also 5ATM waterproof which means you can take it for swimming under 50 meters. Additionally, there is NFC connectivity but it is available only on the higher variant.
Xiaomi says that they have improved the activity tracking and it shows real-time data for running, cycling, walking, and other activities. The button on the band lets you view the caller name, and reject the call with a long press. The band also comes with a heart-rate (PPG) sensor and bears a triaxial acceleration sensor.
The Band has Bluetooth 4.2 LE connectivity that makes it compatible with devices running Android 4.4 and above or iOS 9.0 and above. Just like the Mi Band 2, the wearable can auto-unlock associated MIUI smartphones for the wearer. The Mi Band 3 measures 17.9 x 46.9 x 12mm and weighs 20 grams including the strap.
The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 packs larger 110mAh battery life that offers up to 20 days of battery life on a single charge.
