The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) makes it mandatory for ceiling fans to have star ratings. Starting from July 2020, fans should have ratings from one star to five stars just like air conditioners and refrigerators. The idea here is to promote energy efficiency and higher the star rating, more is the power savings.
For a tropical country like India, you find ceiling fans everywhere – be it homes, offices or shops and it is one of the unsuspicious appliances which secretly consumes a huge amount of energy. Not only do they absorb exorbitant energy but they also run for long hours, resulting in consuming more energy units. That’s the reason why ceiling fans now a part of the BEE star rating scheme. BEE mandates fan manufacturers to get their models tested and accredited with star ratings so that the consumer knows how much energy efficient it is.
For those who don’t know, in 2019, the government has ramped up minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for ceiling fans and with this, the existing 5-star rated fans will become 1-star. Also, the government wants companies to make products that are environmentally better and consume less electricity. When you consume less electricity, you contribute to fewer carbon emissions needed to generate electricity. This helps in making the environment more sustainable.
Orient Electric, as a trusted brand, considered this their responsibility to provide products and solutions which are not only good for consumers but also for the environment. So, ahead of the new mandatory star rating mechanism for fans, electrical goods firm Orient Electric, part of the diversified CK Birla Group, has launched a new range of technologically advanced ceiling fans that is aimed at saving 50 percent electricity as compared to ordinary fans. The new i-Series range of ceiling fans by Orient Electric is powered by ECM Inverter technology and promises a significant reduction in electricity bills for consumers.
The new i-Series range of fans by Orient Electric is a part of the company’s plans to emerge as a frontrunner in the segment of energy-efficient fans while also gaining more ground in the premium fans segment. The i-Series range is in line with the government’s push for energy conservation as well as the climate emergency and rise of environmentally conscious consumerism and a conscious effort from the Orient Electric side aimed at helping India to save energy and reduce carbon footprint.
The new i-Series range of fans is powered by ECM Inverter technology, which the company claims that it can save 50 percent electricity compared to ordinary fans. For your information, Inverter is a technology that helps reduce energy consumption and manage the performance when there is no voltage fluctuation. According to the company, the traditional induction-motor based fans consume 70-75W of electricity, whereas Orient i-Series fans consume only 35W, thus reducing power consumption by half. During the launch of i-Series, Mr. Atul Jain, Executive Vice President said, if all the fans installed in India are replaced with i-Series fans, it will help the nation to save 10.4 crore MWh of energy annually with a cost saving of approximately Rs. 67,780 crore.
Orient Electric’s i-Series fans are BEE 5-star rated and operate silently and efficiently even at low voltages which is a common problem across India. The new range of inverter motor-based fans available in a variety of colours and designs to suit any setting and decor. The pricing starts at Rs. 2,850 and goes up to Rs. 5,300 for the top-end model. The i-Series range consists of i-Floral, Hector 500 and i-Float. The i-Float fan comes with IoT and can be operated via Orient Smart mobile app or with voice commands via Alexa and Google Assistant. The i-Series fans deliver an astounding 230 CMM of air, features aesthetically pleasing designs, aerodynamically designed, super-efficient noiseless motor, and high gloss premium finish.
