Earlier HTC has announced the HTC One (M8), at the end of March and now the company has announced “HTC One Mini 2” which comes with improved specs when compared with last year HTC One Mini edition. It is a cheaper and more compact model of its flagship HTC One M8. Although there is no word on the pricing yet, but the device would go on sale first in EMEA from the end of May 2014 and in North Asia from June 2014. It is available in Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver and Amber Gold.
Speaking of the launch, Peter Chou, CEO of HTC, said the following:
The latest member of the award-winning HTC One family distills the advanced features that have earned it global acclaim, into an elegant, compact handset. Its size and tapered edges fit perfectly in a hand, pocket or purse, making it look great and feel even better to use. It’s the perfect choice for those who love the iconic design of the HTC One (M8) yet want something more compact.
When compared with One Mini, the One Mini 2 comes with a slightly bigger display, a higher capacity battery, a different camera design and bigger sensor, but it has the same processor, RAM and storage capacity. It measures 137 x 65 x 10.6mm and it is nearly 1mm thicker. The phone weighs 137 grams and sports BoomSound dual front stereo speakers.
HTC One Mini 2 features a 4.5-inch HD display of 720p resolution at 326ppi density and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset featuring a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex A7 CPU, 1GB of RAM and an Adreno 305 GPU. The onboard storage is 16GB which is similar as on the original One Mini, but this time it can be expanded by an additional 128GB thanks to the microSD card slot. The HTC One Mini 2 runs on Android KitKat with a layer of HTC Sense 6.0 UI and the HTC BlinkFeed.
Even though it lacks UltraPixel camera but it is equipped with 13MP camera with a BSI sensor and an f2.2 lens at the back and 5MP camera at the front which is capable of recording 1080p video. It has HTC Zoe and Zoe highlights.
The One Mini 2 offers LTE connectivity as well as GPS and GLONASS, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 (atpX enabled), dual-band Wi-Fi 802.1n and microUSB 2.0. HTC says the smartphone can last for 16 hours of 3G talk time on its 2,100mAh battery.
