Carl Zeiss has launched the company’s first Virtual Reality (VR) headset – VR One at a price tag of $99. It is available for pre-order and will be available in December. It is compatible with iOS and Android smartphones.
According to a company post on Tumblr page,
“VR ONE represents a generation of affordable VR glasses for multiple devices which excel through leading edge optical design and ZEISS precision lenses for an ultimate immersive visual experience”.
In case if you do not know, the VR One is a virtual reality headset that allow users to slider their smartphone and to use it as a virtual reality 3D screen. It’s a head mounted viewfinder for experiencing virtual reality content using a smartphone and it falls in the same line of the Samsung Gear VR & Google’s Cardboard
It is compatible with smartphone between 4.7 and 5.2-inches. Each VR One comes with a single tray and additional trays can be purchased for $10 each. Initially, the VR One comes with compatibility with Apple iPhone & Samsung Galaxy S5 and already company has promised a wide-range of trays for other devices. Just like Samsung Gear VR, the VR One uses same dual-end method showing different images to each eye to trick your brain.
The VR One is built on an open platform with its own SDK for iOS and Android. There will be two different VR apps developed by Zeiss. For your information, Carl Zeiss is best known as the designer and manufacturer of premium lenses for cameras.
