In an event in China, Xiaomi has announced the Mi VR Play headset and calling it a Toy Edition. It’s an Google Cardboard-like VR headset which is made using materials like Spandex & Lycra. As of now, Xiaomi is currently is taking registrations for beta testing and those who selected will be able to get it for just 1 Yuan. Xiaomi received 1 million registrations in just 8 hours when they announce that they require beta testers on 1st August. There is no word on the pricing & release date for consumers.
The Xiaomi MI VR headset has a zipper design so the the phone doesn’t fall out when moving the headset. It uses fabric (nylon + spandex) and EVA which is lightweight, skin-friendly and doesn’t cause discomfort when you use the VR for longer time period. In a VR headset, 4.7-inch to 5.7-inch size phone can be easily fitted and the VR headset has the openings from the front. In addition to this, you can adjust the phone if it moves and ventilation.
The Mi VR Play headset uses anti-glare aspherical lenses with tolerance of just 0.01mm and it also promises the best clarity. There is a metal button on the top to interact with the phone. On the inside it has non-slip pads that also prevents it from accidentally accessing buttons when using the headset.
It comes in several options with personalized colors, including graffiti and decorative design. It measures 201 x 107 x 91mm and weighs 208.7 grams.
The Xiaomi MI VR Play has a separate VR App that offers panoramic video, 3D movies, VR games and apps designed for the headset. Xiaomi has partnership with Conde Nast Traveler, YouKu and Korea’s Dooribun for VR content.
