Already, Vodafone (slashed their 2G data rates to 2p/10KB) and Airtel (reduced their 2G data rates to 1p/10KB) reduced their 2G data rates and now Idea Cellular reduced their 2G data rates by 90%.
The new charges are 2p/10KB from the existing 2p/KB and new charges applicable from July 1st & valid for 90 days. Like Vodafone, new data tariffs available for both prepaid & post-paid subscribers. The new data rates will be available in eight circles of – Tamil Nadu & Chennai, Karnataka, Kolkata, West Bengal, Assam, North East, Bihar, and Orissa.
According to a press release, Idea Cellular Deputy Managing Director Ambrish Jain said,
“Idea has continuously focused at growing data penetration in tier-II & tier-III markets. These eight circles comprise of one third of the total mobile users in India, with a large number of users waiting to board the mobile broadband wagon. Availability of data at such affordable rates will usher in a new wave of mobile data growth in the country.”
Idea Cellular prepaid users can avail the new rates with a nominal value recharge priced between Rs 5-10 and will be valid for 90 days from the date of activation.
