Google has introduced Chromecast, the $35 dongle that brings online content to your TV, alongside with the new Nexus 7 tablet and Android 4.3 OS at Google’s Android event in San Francisco. Google says the Chromecast is the easiest way to enjoy online video and music on your TV.
Google’s Chromecast isn’t a set-top box, it’s a dongle measuring just 2-inches in length and runs on a simplified version of Chrome OS. With Chromecast you can browse content with your phone, laptop or tablet and beam it to the TV at the highest available resolution through the cloud with the push of a software button. You can easily enjoy your favorite online entertainment on your HDTV—movies, TV shows, music, and more from Netflix, YouTube, Google Play, and Chrome.
Chromecast’s Features
– Watch thousands of TV shows and movies on your TV.
– Enjoy trending videos, old favorites, and everything in between on your TV and YouTube.
– Send movies, TV shows, and music from Google Play to your TV.
– Cast a tab from Chrome to enjoy online videos, music, photos, and more on your TV.
The Chromecast is a small dongle that will connect to your HDTV via HDMI port, and will connect to your home Wi-Fi network to pick up that content from its source online. All remote control functionality for the dongle is done through your existing smartphone, tablet or laptop – no need of any hardware remote, control playback, and adjust volume using your device. You continue doing whatever on your phone, tablet or laptop as you watch on the TV.
It’s very easy to start with the Chromecast, just plug Chromecast into any HDTV, connect it to WiFi, then send videos and more from your smartphone, tablet or laptop to your TV with the press of a button. If your home TV don’t support HDMI port, all you need to plug the Chromecast into an external power source through USB.
Chromecast is compatible with the OS Android 2.3 and higher, iOS 6 and higher, Windows 7 and higher, Mac OS 10.7 and higher and Chromebook Pixel. No Windows Phone support right now.
Chromecast is compatible with the application like Google Play, YouTube, and Netflix. In addition, Chrome webpages can be streamed to the television through a Chrome extension.
Chromecast will cost $35 (£23) and is available for US customers online on the Google Play Store and retailers like Best Buy and Amazon Store
. There’s no word about a launch outside of the US at this time.
