BlackBerry is looking forward to bring the BBM experience to a wider group of mobile users and to make BBM a multi-platform mobile service. As announced last month on May 14, the BBM service will available as a third-party app to the two most popular smart platforms – iOS and Android. And now rumors about the release date of BBM application for non-BlackBerry devices making noise.
Earlier todat the news surfaced that BBM is coming to iPhones and Android devices on June 27. The report is based on a tweet from T-Mobile UK account as, “Great news – BlackBerry Messenger will be available to download on iOS and Android from June 27th!”. But the tweet has been deleted later.
According to reports that the June 27 launch date for BBM on Android and iPhone is not correct. BlackBerry is disputing T-Mobile’s initial claim. According to a BlackBerry representative, “That date is completely inaccurate; we have never indicated a specific date.” BlackBerry also released the following statement in response to T-Mobile’s tweet:
“On May 14th, BlackBerry announced plans to make its ground-breaking mobile social network, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), available to iOS and Android users this summer, subject to approval by the Apple App Store and Google Play. While there have been reports that BBM will be available to iOS and Android on June 27th, this is not accurate. We will communicate an update as soon as we have an availability date to share.”
T-Mobile UK has now apologized for the error on twitter, “Sorry folks, we got over-excited about the #BBM app coming to Android / iOS. No specific availability date yet, stay tuned for details”.
As for now there is no official announcement from BlackBerry, no specific availability date yet. While BBM is still set to go cross-platform with Android and iOS later this summer, it won’t be happening at the end of June.
Be patient. BBM is coming. Just not on June 27. Stay tuned for details.
Update: BBM for Android will be available “this summer (summer as per North America, where it remains till September)”, according to the BlackBerry India managing director. This time we got something official that BBM for Android would be available before the end of September.
