After lot of rumours, Apple has finally unveiled the iPhone 6 Plus and it is the company’s first large-screen smartphone. It is priced at $299, $399 and $499 for 16GB, 64GB and 128GB variants with a two-year contract. It comes in Silver, Gold, Space Gray colours and would be available for pre-order from September 12th. It goes on sale from September 19 in US, Australia, France, UK, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore & Germany and by the end of 2014 it will be available across 115 countries globally.
On the specifications front, it has 5.5-inch Full HD display with a aspect ratio of 16:9 and has resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at a pixel density of 401 ppi with over 2 million pixels. It is powered by new Apple A8 chip based on 20-nanometer process, has 2 Billion transistors which makes it 50 times faster than the original iPhone and better GPU that is 84 times faster than the original iPhone. It has M8 motion co-processor and a Barometer for fitness apps which tells you when you climb hills or mountains.
It has 2GB RAM and 16GB/64GB/128GB in-built memory. It runs on iOS 8. The iOS 8 optimized to adapt apps for large screen and t has 2-pane display in landscape mode which offers more information in some apps in portrait mode.
On the imaging front, it has 8MP iSight camera with 1.5 micron pixels, f/2.2 aperture, true-tone flash and a new sensor. It also has optical image stabilization (OIS) and captures panorama up to 43-megapixels. It can capture 1080p videos at 30 fps or 60 fps, Slo-Mo videos at 120 fps or 240 fps. For videos it has cinematic video stabilization. It has 1.2-megapixel FaceTime HD camera on the front with 720p HD video recording, f/2.2 aperture and a new BSI sensor.
On the connectivity front, it supports 130Mbps LTE, 20 LTE bands which works with 200 carriers, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and has a new Wi-Fi calling feature. It has built-in NFC feature which combines with the Touch ID on the home button for Apple Pay and it lets you pay or checkout with one tap from supported retailers and partners. It works with American Express, MasterCard and Visa and would be available in the U.S. in October 2014.
The iPhone 6 Plus has an aluminium unibody design and metal stripes running running on the sides for antennas. It is just 7.1mm thick and weighs 172 grams.
It packs non-removable battery which offers 24 hours of 3G talk time and up to 384 hours of standby time.
