WeChat Achieves 600 Million Monthly Active Users in Q2 2015

WeChat announced that they has reached 600 million monthly active users globally in the second quarter of 2015. This results in achieving the 37 percent growth year-on-year and a 9.3 percent jump from its 549 million MAUs in the previous quarter (Q1 2015).

Nilay Arora, Country Head & Vice President – Marketing and Business Development for WeChat India, said:

“We are excited to witness the increasing interest mobile messaging application users have in our platform. The potential for messaging platforms is boundless. These figures are a testament to our strong belief in the future of communication, and we are continually dedicated to delivering a holistic user experience for our users, be it through integrating services to provide a seamless online to offline experience all through one platform, or through the little things like keeping the user experience beautifully uncomplicated”.

The WeChat has seen much evolution in its lifespan and brings greater convenience & more capabilities with each update. The WeChat’s latest update allows users to translate posts on Moments into their language of choice at the click of a button. It offers best services such as text, voice, and social messaging, the WeChat of today encapsulates messaging capabilities, social sharing, videos, and even brand pages and a marketplace (through Official Accounts).

According to Nilay,

“WeChat has also seen such an increase for the variety of local animated stickers available in the gallery, the popular ones being Bollywood, Angry Aunty, Mona Darling, and one liners. To add more to it, the video and voice calling feature makes WeChat a preferred social communication tool between friends.”

The platform continues to innovate and enhance its offerings through collaborations with local and internationally known brands and products, such as the Apple Watch. For example, users can now access WeChat via the Apple Watch, and see all their notifications, send messages and stickers to their friends at a single tap.

Locally in India, WeChat has collaborated with brands such as Flipkart, Amazon, Times of India, Café Coffee Day, Eros Now, Yatra through its Official Accounts, enabling users to shop, book a travel package, order coffee, book a movies all through one single platform.
