In an event in New Delhi, Opera has announced that Opera Max can save up to 60% of mobile data while streaming videos online & music on the go. According to a study, usage of millions of Opera Max users in India found that users watching YouTube-60%, Netflix-60%, Saavn-40%, Gaana-40%, Hotstar -15% and Eros Now- 15% are saving data.
Sergey Lossev, Product Head for Opera Max at Opera, said:
“An Android smartphone without data is like a car without gas, it can’t take you the places you want to go. Unfortunately, data is still expensive for hundreds of millions of users, and entertainment apps drain mobile data much faster than any other app. When you make a data-savings engine capable of compressing videos and music and then make it work seamlessly with native Android apps, you get a powerful tool for lowering the cost of data usage and helping users maximize their entertainment options.”
According to a recent IAMAI report on mobile internet trends in India, entertainment is among the top three reasons for urban users to get online from mobile devices. And, when it comes to rural areas, entertainment stands out as the top-most reason. Currently, this rural user base constitutes around 30% of the overall mobile internet users, and their data consumption is all set to explode in the coming two years.
Once you installed the Opera Max in your smartphone, it reduces the data usage of video and audio streaming apps. Above all, you can save data while browsing image-rich apps & webpages. It uses an on-device virtual private network (or VPN) to measure data usage directly on the device. Opera Max sends all data requests to the Opera Max Savings Cloud, which optimizes video, images, and webpages to use less data.
