Opera ‘Web on Wheels’ Wi-Fi-enabled Car to bring free internet access to 20 Indian cities
Opera Software is celebrating its 20th anniversary and to celebrate this ocassion they launched Web on Wheels (WOW) in India. It features a WOW car that provides free Wi-Fi access to everyone, those are in range. This is aimed to encourage new users to go online and experience the internet from their mobile phones.
Regarding the new initiative, Sunil Kamath, Vice President for South Asia & South East Asia at Opera Software, said:
“Today, almost everyone has a mobile handset that is capable of accessing the internet. However, many users are reluctant to use the mobile internet due to a lack of awareness or the perceived high cost. We hope Web on Wheels can help in lowering the barriers for new users to come online. At Opera, we strive to bring the web to everyone. This year marks our 20th anniversary. With Web on Wheels, we want to give something back to our users and hope to help more people see how fun and educational it is to be on the web.”
In the next 10 months, the WOW car will travel across India and covers 20 cities starting Agra. The car will be stationed at multiple locations throughout the city for 20 days each. After Agra, the WOW car will travel around Lucknow and it’s next stops are Kanpout, Varanasi & Allahabad. It will hit the road in phases, firstly it will cover northern belt of India.
When WOW Car reach your city, you can connect to the Opera Wi-Fi connection and browser for free for 20 minutes each day. There is no limit to the amount of data to be used during this time or the website and apps that ca be used within this free internet service, said by Opera.
To access the WOW car’s free internet, mobile users must take the following steps:
- Switch their phone’s Wi-Fi setting to ON and select Opera Mini free Wi-Fi from their wireless network options.
- Open the Opera Mini browser. A sign-in screen will appear.
- Sign in by entering their details and a one-time password.
