In India 88 percent of the population is non- English and around 50 percent speaks Hindi, it is reflected on the country’s digital landscape where the content is being made compatible for various local languages. Industry reports and researches suggest that the number of local language Internet users in India is growing at 47 percent year-on-year.
The searches made on Microsoft Bing also highlight country’s language diversity. Language searches have seen a year-on-year growth on Bing. As per the last year’s figures, 12 percent out of the total people use Indian language to search queries on internet using mobile phones. 70 percent of the search queries entered on Bing has been reported to be in Devanagari which is used by many Indian languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit etc. The year for Bing was interesting.
